Our mission at W.A.R.S. is to promote table-top games in all their forms. People from various walks of life and age groups share this thrilling hobby and meet on a regular basis at our premises; as mighty generals of vast armies they confront each other or team up into a party to explore dungeons, investigate murders or even become vampires! Close to our magnificent capital, in the quarters formerly known as ‘balzunetta’, lies our stronghold. The premises offers tabletops for would be generals to test their mettle on, rooms dedicated to role -playing and even a recreation area where one can sit down and discuss ongoing events, past events or organise future ones. Board game events are organized regularly formally and informally and we have a library for members to pick and choose what they wish to play on premises. Game away from the screen. Mighty Boards came into being through a merger of minds in 2016, between part of the team who brought you Posthuman (then called Mighty Box) and the studio behind Days of Ire (then called Cloud Island). Some of the people involved in this uncanny mind-meld were senior academics working in games, philosophy and the visual arts, and a few have shady pasts in the AAA video game industry, with experience as consultants and designers on the Witcher franchise (Gwent and Thronebreaker) and Cyberpunk 2077.

From their bases in different countries across Europe, this ragtag bunch came together to bring worlds to life through cardboard, cards and tokens, united by a shared commitment to quality, beauty and imagination.

In 2021, through what some believe was a once-in-a-lifetime conjunction of the celestial spheres, the entire team was mysteriously sucked into an interdimensional vortex. Mighty Boards now operates as a consolidated unit in a single office, occupying some prime real estate in a small velvet-lined pocket outside spacetime. (The views over the entire known and unknown multiverse are really something to write home about! If, you know, any postal service would ever make it that far out.) Unconfirmed sightings of the team in the physical plane have mostly clustered around the limestone streets and sun-dazed beaches of the island of Malta, though they have also been known to astral-project into the occasional board game convention.

The cosmic radiation flowing through their quaint location outside spacetime, combined with their academic and video game development background, creates an optimal environment for fostering exceptional creativity, and for dreaming up unique experiences, and for sculpting these experiences into existence with a certain critical and reflective flair.

The Wanderer’s Tome is run by Maltese sisters Fleur and Chelsea Sciortino.

What is the Aeternum Engine?
Aeternum Engine is an Action based TTRPG with focus on character customisation, tactical combat and flexible dual-class system based on archetypes. Everything is designed to work with any setting but the first version is mostly geared towards medium to high fantasy.

Each character in Aeternum Engine can create their ‘class fantasy’ by selecting 2 different archetypes and unlocking all their powers as the character grows in power. You can choose to be a Berserker with the power to wield the elements of Fire, or an Arcanist that wields spell and blade equally. Aeternum Engine splits the combat attributes from the character’s knowledge and skills so that your combat fantasy does not hamper your character’s knowledge outside of battle.

Aeternum Engine allows each character to build their own weapons and armor but also to pick from a large number of pre-created ones. Aeternum Engine will feature more than 12 Archetypes and over 1000 different powers or spells to choose from when released later in 2023.

The system design is taking all advantage of modern technologies for system updates, character sheets and inventory management. The Aeternum Engine will be released with 3 components. The Player’s Guide to the Aeternum Engine, Aeternum Engine Dungeon Master Codex (which includes how to run the game, a large bestiary and a starter adventure to help learn the system without having to spend a lot of time reading everything). Finally the system will also ship with its own setting called Aeternum, a whole new fantasy universe to be explored.

What to Expect at the Malta Gaming Expo?
If you’re visiting the Malta Gaming Expo and want to try out this modern take on Action Based TTRPG, you can try out our demo, The Cellar of Nightmares. You don’t need any prior knowledge of the system to try and demo but previous experience in a TTRPG will make it easier for you to understand some of the mechanics.

The demo should run for about 1 hour for about 4-5 players per game.
